Paid Time Off (PTO)

Our PTO benefits give you flexible options that respond to your life and needs.

How It Works

If you’re a regular full-time or part-time employee, you earn PTO to use for holidays, vacations, sick days and other personal reasons.

  • You start earning (accruing) PTO on your first day of work.
  • The amount you accrue is based on the number of regular hours you work (up to your standard hours) and years of service.
  • The more years of service you have, the more PTO you can accrue.
  • Plus, you can carry over up to 200 hours of PTO into the next calendar year.

Always coordinate with your supervisor to keep him or her up to date on your plans to take time off.

How You Accrue

Here’s how PTO accrues for most employees:

  • Plan Your Time Off

Self-care is important for safe care. Safety isn’t just physical, it’s emotional too. The demands of our daily work can be great, that's why it's important to prioritize self-care and asking for support when you need it.

Coordinate with your manager to schedule time away to do something that brings you joy.

Sell or Donate PTO

We recognize that employees have larger balances than in previous years due to COVID-19. As a result, the 2020 PTO Sell/Donate campaign guidelines have been temporarily adjusted! Even with these changes, there is no substitute for taking time away from work to rest and recharge. Please review your PTO bank and schedule time away to do something that brings you joy.

2020 Carryover Adjustments

(temporarily extended)

Employees now have until March 28, 2021, to use accrued PTO over 200 hours (at which point any hours above the 200 limit will be rolled back). In 2022, the rollback to 200 hours will revert back to occurring after the first pay period of the new year.

PTO Sell/Donate Campaign

(temporarily increased)

  • Sell up to 60 hours per calendar year 2020
If you sell PTO, you will receive 90% of your hourly pay rate (due to IRS regulations) multiplied by the number of hours sold. The amount sold will be subject to applicable payroll taxes and is 401(k) eligible.

  • Donate up to 60 hours per calendar year 2020
You can donate to one of four BSW Foundations, United Way or both! This year, if you donate to a BSW Foundation, your gift will go to support the Employees 1st Emergency Fund. If you choose United Way, your funds will support areas of greatest need.

The 2020 campaign runs Oct. 27 through Nov. 18.
Payments and/or donations will be reflected in the Nov. 13, 2020 and/or Nov. 27, 2020, paychecks, respectively.
